EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST FOR APPOINTED BOARD MEMBERS

 

Rowing Queensland Limited is now calling for Expressions of Interest (EOI) for interested individuals who wish to be considered as an Appointed Board Member.

The Board are currently recruiting to fill the following:

  • One Appointed Director position (until May 2025)
  • One casual vacancy in an Elected Director position (until May 2026)

 

About Rowing Queensland Limited:

Rowing Queensland is a not-for-profit, state sporting organisation responsible for the management and development of the sport of rowing throughout Queensland. Rowing Queensland is affiliated with Rowing Australia, the recognised national governing body for the sport, and we represent our members (rowing clubs and school associations) in this and other contexts. 

Our Board of Directors are responsible for strategy and governance, supported by the Chief Executive Officer, other professional staff and volunteers.

Rowing Queensland’s work program includes; design and provision of regattas and other competition opportunities; safety and other administrative guidance and support for affiliated rowing clubs and schools with rowing programs; development programs for athletes and coaches; recruitment, training and accreditation of officials and other regatta volunteers; and a range of other activities. 

Through the club and school system, the sport caters for a wide variety of participants (6,000+); from social rowers through to elite athletes and masters. The annual regatta program is diverse and incorporates multiple championship events, such as the Queensland Championships, Queensland School Championships, Queensland Masters Championships and Queensland Grade Championships. Each year, Rowing Queensland selects a state team to compete at the national Interstate Regatta, National Masters Championships and Pathways Regattas.

 

Prospective applicants are encouraged to review the Rowing Queensland Constitution.

 

Position Details:

The Board currently meets eight times each year. Additionally, Board sub-committees meet 3-4 times a year, along with at least one General Meeting of members per year. All meetings are generally held at the Rowing Queensland office in West End, Brisbane, with the capability and option for virtual attendance if required.

 

This is a voluntary role.

 

Skills and Experience:

Rowing Queensland aims to attract and retain an experienced Board to represent the interests of rowing in Queensland. To achieve this, we are seeking individuals that have extensive skills and professional backgrounds in the following fields:

  1. Legal – Specialising in NFP sector, integrity or commercial law.
  2. Commercial – Sponsorship and partnerships establishment.

In addition, previous or current Board experience is highly desirable.

 

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  1. Hold and provide their Director ID through the Australian Business Registry Service upon nomination.
  2. Hold or be eligible to hold a blue card.
  3. Be willing to obtain a National Police Check.
  4. Have reviewed the Rowing Queensland Constitution to ensure their eligibility (cl. 11.3).

 

EOI Application: 

Applicants should complete and return the following documents:

  1. Covering Letter, no longer than one-page
  2. A Curriculum Vitae (CV), no longer than two-pages

Review Process and Timeframes:

The following review process will be conducted:

·         All EOIs will be collated by the CEO and provided to the Rowing Queensland Board for their review and screening, following the closure of applications on 27th September 2024.

·         A short list will be established by the Chair who will request interviews with the shortlisted applications, coordinated by the CEO.

·         Following the interviews, the Board will pass a motion to appoint the approved applicants during a meeting of the Board on 24th October 2024.

·         The Chair will contact the successful applicants following the Board meeting, and once the positions have been accepted, formal notification will be issued to the Rowing Queensland membership and wider community.  

Note: Rowing Queensland reserves all rights to not appoint/select anyone at the conclusion of the EOI process, at its absolute discretion. Rowing Queensland may elect to postpone or terminate, during any stage of the EOI process as it deems necessary and will not be required to disclose the reasons due to privacy and confidentiality.
