150 Year Anniversary Cup

In celebration of Brisband and GPS’ 150+100 year celebration, 150 year anniversary of the original Brisbane Rowing Club and 100 year anniversary of GPS, Bne & GPS plans to conduct a novelty, relay event at the Bne & GPS regatta on 12th April 2025.  A trophy, the 150 year anniversary cup will be awarded to the winning club.  It is hoped that this will become a perpetual event to be conducted at the annual Bne & GPS Regatta.

Concept:

A relay event comprising 500m legs over five boat classes from a single club wherever possible in mixed crew format.  The winner will be the first entry to complete all seven legs.

Entrants:

For this purpose, an Entrant or an Entry refers to a Club who has nominated a compliant crew in each boat class as identified.  Composite boats will not be permitted except from smaller or single gender clubs without the capacity to fill all boat classes.

Due to safe course operation and the limit of 10 lanes five (5) Entries being five (5) Entrants will be accepted on a first come first serve basis.

Boat Classes:

1x, 2x, 2-, 4x & 4-

Crewing:

  • The single may be rowed by a male or female rower with the male entries off a 7 sec. handicap.
  • 2x may be rowed by a female or male crew provided that the 2- is rowed by a crew of the opposite gender.
  • 2- may be rowed by a female or male crew provided that the 2x is rowed by a crew of the opposite gender.
  • Bothe the 4x and 4- are to be rowed by mixed crews comprising two male and two female rowers.
  • No rower can row more than on leg.

Format:

The event will comprise the identified boats racing over 5 x 500m legs rowed in order of 1x, 2x, 2-, 4- and 4x.  The first leg will commence at the 1500m mark with the final leg finishing on the 2000m finish line. At the end of the first leg and then each successive leg the next boat may commence rowing once the bows cross.  Any early start will be penalised 10 seconds.

Racing will take place in lanes 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 between the 1500m mark and the 2000m finish line.  The first leg will start in Lane 2, 4, 6 8 and 10 and race the entire leg in that lane.  The boats rowing the next leg will start in lanes 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 and cross into lane 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 as soon it is safe to do so, whereupon they will race the balance of the leg in that lane. This procedure will be repeated for each successive leg.  The objective is to maintain a lane separation between boats which potentially are going in opposite directions.

The first Entrant to complete all five legs, after allowing for any penalties will be the winner.
