It’s a wrap – Head Race Season

Head Race season is something many of our Queensland clubs and schools look forward to. There were many opportunities, locations and distances to choose from, with clubs using local racing to prepare for National and International events, most notable Head of the Charles in Boston and Head of the Yarra in Victoria.

Queensland clubs and schools had nearly 1,500 seats across the season, ranging from regattas in Outback Queensland, Murwillumbah, Wide Bay and Brisbane. Masters made up three quarters of the entries, with school age and open entries rounding out the rest.

Over 60 Queensland crews headed to Melbourne in November for the 63rd Head of the Yarra. Unfortunately, some racing was cancelled due to the heat, largely affecting the Open crews in the latter part of the program. However, that didn’t diminish the wins from many of our Queensland crews. Fingers crossed for next year!

2025 will see many of our favourite head races return, as well as a few that have been on hiatus across the state. Keep an eye on the calendar for details!
